Around Alaska's Mat-Su Valley with Pam Holen

December 12, 2007        HAPPY HOLIDAYS - OUR CHRISTMAS LETTER

This year has been marked by visits to Astoria, Oregon to bond with my granddaughter, Anaise Rose. As we prepare to spend Christmas in Astoria with her, I realize 2007 has been about grandbabies. I’ve traveled to Oregon five times this year. Chris and Jen brought her to Alaska in June. I’ve visited with Ana six times in her first twelve months. I’ve also spend every Thursday (minus summer and holidays) with Ruari. It has been a good year.

Jim continues to work as a clinican for Mat Su Health Services and enjoys the challenge of helping people solve their life puzzles. When he isn’t at MSHS, you can find him at the local Alaska Club bouncing a ball or lifting weights.

The only ball I bounce is for a border collie. I think my weights are somewhere under the bed gathering dust bunnies. Jim and I continue to spend a few hours each week teaching Jessie and Quinnie the finer points of flyball. Quinnie is a natural – a psychotic border collie who has destroyed kennels to join in the game. She won four titles at her first tournament, clocking a 4.2 second run. Jessie, on the other hand, would rather greet her public and herd the small, fluffy height dogs. Jim runs Jessie – a Chevy. I run Quinnie – a Porsche. We really need to get another Porsche so Jim can be competitive.

We finished our fourth season with Dragonfly Gardens B&B and already booking for 2008. We get visitors from around the globe and travel from our deck chairs, chatting with our guests. I’ve updated our website and added a blog. If you ever want to be bored, please sign on and read what we’ve been up to lately.

Davin, Cara, and Ruari are doing well. Ruari is in Montessori School three times a week now and spends one day with his Grandma Tap and one day with his Nana. Grandpa Jim is teaching him to fish in the summer and sled in the winter.

Chris, Jen, and Ana are also doing well in Astoria. Ana and I spend quality time strolling the river walk and checking out the latest art gallery or boutique when I visit. After dark I can be found working down the two restaurants’ menus and drinking Walnut City wines. Yes, I’ve gained weight – you can blame Chris.

We enjoyed our visits to family and friends this past year. Please consider a visit to Wasilla – we’d love to see you. Pam (and Jim)
